Welcome to our Youth Group Page!
Our Youth Group is a place for any teen ages 13-18 to come and be among other teens...and a youth director who acts like one! It is a safe place to be yourself while learning about the Christian lifestyle. Together we examine our lives and encourage each other to grow in our individual walks with Jesus. We have a lot of fun through monthly outings (such as bowling, concerts, scavenger hunts, retreats, etc.) and weekly meals/games together.
We are also looking to help the widows and elderly in our church. We would like to show that we care by doing anything that may be needed (housework, yard work, chores, errands, rides to visit family/friends, etc) So please let us know if we can be of any service to you. This is absolutely free of charge. We just want to show our appreciation.
This year we are trying something new for Youth Group. Starting Wednesday, September 23, we will be involved in Young LIfe, a Christian organization that meets in teens' homes in Geneva. It is similar to our youth group meetings in that it is a time for fun, fellowship, and learning about the Gospel. I though we would try this out this year because since we have such a small group of students, it can sometimes be a very skimpy group if some are not able to attend due to sports, clubs, illness, or homework. Young Life provides many more teens and lots of fun. Their typical schedule on Wednesday evenings is as follows:
- 8:00pm - mingle
- 8:20pm - start with music (singing songs with live guitar), games (mixer), skit, message (Gospel is presented throughout each semester)
- 9:15pm - end (the reason for later time frame is to avoid sports schedule conflicts)
Picture 30+ teens, a couple of crazy adult leaders, loud music and really gross games involving raw fish. The latest game played was turkey bowling. Who comes up with these games anyway!?
Among all the craziness is a sense of fun, friendship, laughter, and togetherness. Each week we sing several popular contemporary songs led by 2 of the Young Life leaders on guitar. We end by singing a Christian song and listening to a message for the night. Last week we learned what it means to be a follower of Jesus. We learned that it is a relationship with Him that is important and that when we are followers of Christ, God isn't keeping a list of the mistakes we make. He loves us no matter what we do, and through that unconditional love we can begin to change. We can turn our mistakes into new beginnings. We can start over at anytime and live for Him.
